Frequently asked

Common questions

How often should a person with diabetes see a podiatrist?

The CDC and APMA recommend a comprehensive diabetic foot exam at least once a year. Patients with neuropathy, prior ulcers, or vascular disease should be seen more frequently — every 1–3 months — to prevent serious complications.

What are the warning signs of a diabetic foot problem?

Watch for any cut, blister, or callus that isn't healing; redness, warmth, or swelling; numbness or tingling; foot odor or drainage; and changes in skin color or temperature. These warrant prompt podiatric evaluation.

Can diabetic ulcers be treated without surgery?

Most diabetic foot ulcers heal with offloading (specialized boots or casts), debridement, advanced wound dressings, and infection control. Surgery is reserved for deep infection, bone involvement, or failed conservative care.

Do you accept Medicare for diabetic foot care?

Yes. Medicare covers an annual comprehensive diabetic foot exam and therapeutic shoes for qualifying patients. We verify your benefits before your visit.
